CUT & PASTE Will the power of a Twitter account be enough to defeat the member for Warringah?
Hey, if Donald Trump can do it … yet another reality TV star enters the political arena, this time in Warringah. The Daily Telegraph, Saturday: Former Australian Idol co-host James Mathison will challenge Tony Abbott at the July 2 election, using a social media-driven campaign strategy focused on turning the youth vote against the dumped prime minister.
Mathison has got the talking to the disenfranchised bit down, at least. ABC News website, yesterday: We know the system is broken. We know young people are completely ignored and locked out and think their vote doesn't count, that they're disenfranchised, that they have no voice to be heard and that's exactly what the major parties want.
Somehow we suspect the media will be kinder to the Bernie Sanders-loving Mathison, though. Twitter, February 11: Honesty, compassion, integrity, courage, vision ... What a f*cking guy. Do we dare to dream?!?? #FeelTheBern
Even if they can't quite spell his name yet. SBS News, yesterday: Matherson has frequently crticised the Andrew Bolt, the Liberal government and Tony Abbott on social media in recent months, though he appears to be less critical of NSW Liberal Premier Mike Baird.
That's for sure. Mathison - or is it Matherson? - tweeting about the NSW Premier, September 17, 2015: Container recycling plan, compassion for refugees, commitment to child protection and bachelor fan. What a dude.
Red flagged. The Weekend Australian, Saturday: Embattled Safe Schools Coalition co-ordinator Roz Ward was forced yesterday to quit her advisory role … over a Facebook post in which she labelled the Australian flag "racist" and called for it to be replaced with a socialist red ensign.
Miranda Devine, The Sunday Telegraph, yesterday: We really owe a debt of gratitude to Marxist education adviser Roz Ward for revealing the true nature of the "Safe Schools" program she co-founded.
But Mao's Little Red Book was silent on gender theory. The Sun-Herald, yesterday: NSW public schools are being paid at least $10,000 a year by a Chinese government body to offer its Chinese language and culture courses, and some schools make it compulsory to attend … One Chinese-Australian parent said it was akin to "the infiltration of the Chinese Communist Party into the NSW public school system".
Is this the most Sydney story ever? Anne Summers laments being pitched into the electorate of Sydney, The Sydney Morning Herald, Saturday: A couple of weeks ago, the Australian Electoral Commission wrote to inform me that, as a resident of Potts Point, I was no longer an elector in the seat of Wentworth, currently held by the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
At least she can vote to increase diversity in parliament. SBS News, May 14: This week the Liberal Party announced it would stand young, openly gay indigenous man Geoffrey Winters in the seat of Sydney, currently held by Deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek.
Hint: They clean up after themselves. SMH website, yesterday:The daily habits of people who always have a clean house.
