THE Socceroos are understrength but that does not apply to the midfield after captain Mile Jedinak was cleared to face England on Saturday morning (AEST).
Missing key Asian-based attackers for the friendly, Ange Postecoglou's midfield stocks have never been stronger and he is faced with a- -selection quandary.
Crystal Palace's Jedinak, who was rested from yesterday's first session after playing 120 minutes in last Saturday's FA Cup final loss, Mark Milligan, Aaron Mooy, Tom Rogic and Massimo Luongo are fighting for three or four spots.
Mooy, on the verge of signing for a European club from Melbourne City, Rogic, in -career-best form with Celtic, and Luongo, the Asian Cup player of the tournament, are attack-minded.
But Postecoglou must be tempted to reunite defensively astute duo -Jedinak and Milligan while stoppers Matthew Spiranovic and Trent -Sainsbury are absent.
QPR's Luongo said Australia's midfield had improved and was capable of -testing Eng-land's star-studded -mid-field options in Dele Alli and Eric Dier (Tottenham), Jack Wilshere -(Arsenal), Ross Barkley (Everton), -Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Adam -Lallana, James Milner, Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) and Danny Drinkwater (Leicester).
"We've got four players for two (midfield) positions, the depth is growing and the boys that have come into camp are adapting quickly," Luongo said.
"We've got a lot of hard work to do off the ball to make sure we're stable but when we have the ball we can hurt them, we can hurt a lot of teams.
"That's our strength, boys getting in the pockets and turning them back to their own goal.
"We had to create a base to work from (18 months ago), it (the midfield) was a bit more solid then."Now with one holding and two attacking we have -progressed a long way and we are more confident and we've got threats and scorers all over the pitch."
