What is the problem?Not all catastrophic injuries are covered in motor vehicle crashes in WA. For example, if your vehicle hits a kangaroo and you are catastrophically injured, you may not be covered. On average 92 people are catastrophically injured each year in crashes in WA: 48 of those people can claim through Compulsory Third Party insurance, but 44 miss out on CTP compensation as they were either at fault in the crash or unable to identify another driver at fault.
What is changing?Motor injury insurance is expanding to provide treatment, care and support for all catastrophic injuries from motor vehicle crashes in WA from   July 1, 2016.
Who will it help?People catastrophically injured in crashes in WA from   July 1 this year. 1.8 million drivers in 2.8 million vehicles will have their insurance cover expanded.
Lifetime care costs for a person catastrophically injured are estimated at an average $4 million. It is not retrospective.
What will it cost?A maximum $99 premium increase to your motor injury insurance cover per vehicle.
