The quality of the finishes, the latest designer materials and striking light fittings can be found throughout every corner of a house built for display - it's the builder's chance to showcase the possibilities and the latest innovations.
It was the catalogue of creative details that made the team behind the Seven Network's Australia's Best Houses notice this lavish Coombs property, which was built by Tranquility Homes Canberra and designed by Ministry Design architect Petar Ivancevic and Archertec Interiors designer Sonja McAuliffe.
The Canberra property will feature on an episode of Australia's Best Houses in June and host Gary Takle said there were several features that made the home a standout.
"It's won a lot of awards and it's a very good-looking, streamlined home - but it had some features we hadn't seen before," Takle said.
The kitchen comprises a range of materials including a benchtop split into a marble-and-stone composition. The stone component adds a stainless work surface to the sleek marble counter.
He said the show's producers also loved the thoughtful details within every room of the house.
Feature walls throughout the living areas were created using a timber- based wallpaper. A fireplace, framed in marble, was placed so it could be seen on entering a room and is also out of reach of children.
Tranquility Homes project manager Kevin Wilson said the company's approach was generally to create a custom home made to match the client's lifestyle. But in the case of a display home they highlight some of the unexpected techniques and high- end features that have started to work their way into modern design.
"All the elements we've used here have created a unique lifestyle space and I think that's what captured [the TV show's] attention," Mr Wilson said. Tranquility Homes director Abdul Mazaydeh said the opulent master suite was his favourite room and the "showpiece" of the home.
It was built in the style of a luxurious hotel room with integrated joinery, feature wallpaper and an en suite complete with a waterfall shower and free-standing tub.
The home was the recipient of many Housing Industry Association and Master Builders Association awards, including the HIA ACT and Southern NSW's award for a custom- built home - $700,001 to $900,000.
It is also a finalist in the HIA national awards for bathroom of the year.
The next season of Australia's Best Houses will begin on Friday, June 10, at 10.30pm on 7TWO.
