Australian retiree dies The expat community in Bali is in mourning after a retired Australian engineer who was allegedly viciously attacked twice in his Bali villa died on Friday.
Neil John Bourke, known as John, was in a coma with severe head injuries after he was found bleeding on his living room floor in his villa in Gunung Salak in Kerobokan on May 11.
The disturbing incident - which has shocked and unsettled the expat and Gereja Kristus Yesus church communities - was the second time Mr Bourke had been attacked in 11 days according to friends. Police - who were waiting for Mr Bourke to recover so they could interview him - were treating the case as an assault but said there was no sign of a break-in.
The friend who found the 63-year-old - Polce Fanggidae - said Mr Bourke had asked him three days before the attack to take care of his beloved dog if anything happened to him.
Photos taken after the first time he was allegedly attacked show wounds - reportedly from a stick - criss-crossing Mr Bourke's head.
