In the midst of growing speculation Kurtley Beale's lucrative deal with English Premiership team Wasps has hit a roadblock, Dave Dennis has hinted there might be some frustration on Beale's part as a decision on whether or not he leaves Australia draws closer.
It is understood Beale has been offered a lucrative two-year $2.7 million contract from Wasps, but there has been no official announcement as to whether he will leave for England. Former Wallabies fullback Greg Martin raised eyebrows on Rugby 360 this week by saying he was under the impression Beale's defection might be up in the air. "Leigh Halfpenny, of course the great British Lions fullback, he was approached last week to go to Wasps, and he said: 'Oh, I thought you had Kurtley Beale'? It may fall through this deal," Martin said.
Waratahs players have been reluctant to comment on Beale's plans and say they have not spoken to him about the situation.
Dennis, who signed with Exeter before the start of the season, is hoping Beale remains in Australia.
"I think it's probably just a little bit frustrating for Kurtley [that] it's taken so long to sort out whether he is going or not," Dennis said. "I know there's an opportunity for him, but if it falls through it's a pretty good result for Australian rugby if he stays here," he added.
If Beale does leave the Waratahs for the Wasps it's possible he will come up against Dennis next season. But the NSW stalwart is adamant Beale would not get the better of him in England.
"There's no way Kurtley's stepping around me next year in the English mud, I won't let it happen," Dennis said. "That's the beauty of rugby - playing on the other side of the world and two mates playing each other would be pretty cool."
