ADELAIDE MARGIN 4% HELD BY LABOR MP KATE ELLIS Liberal candidate: David Colovic â- Political editor Tory Shepherd says: Kate Ellis is a frontbencher and one of Labor's most prominent MPs, and should comfortably defeat David Colovic. Barring unforeseen upsets, of course. The fact that Mr Colovic is a lawyer who made an unfortunate comment about occasionally visiting "the poor end" of Prospect will feed nicely into Labor's plan to paint the Coalition as a bunch of toffs.
BARKER MARGIN 16.6% HELD BY LIBERAL MP TONY PASIN Labor candidate (to be named this week) â- Tory says:We didn't hear a lot from Tony Pasin in his first term, but with that whopping margin it scarcely matters in terms of his likely re-election. However, Labor will count it as a victory if their candidate secures a sizeable swing against him.
BOOTHBY MARGIN 7.2% HELD BY RETIRING LIBERAL MP ANDREW SOUTHCOTT, LIBERAL CANDIDATE NICOLLE FLINT Labor candidate Mark Ward â- Tory says: Boothby will be an interesting battle with a new candidate - it remains to be seen whether that's a good or bad thing in voters' minds.
Nicolle Flint is very well regarded within the party and has a profile thanks to her columns in The Advertiser, but Boothby used to be the most marginal seat in the country and it could go down to the wire.
GREY MARGIN 13.6% HELD BY LIBERAL MP ROWAN RAMSEY Labor candidate (to be named this week) â- Tory says: There is very little chance of Grey changing hands - that would take a stitch up between Labor and Nick Xenophon. However Rowan Ramsey's sprawling electorate includes the Arrium steelworks.
Despite recent cheering news about some Federal support and Oz Minerals plans to build a copper plant in Whyalla, jobs in the area will remain a big issue.
KINGSTON MARGIN 9.8% HELD BY LABOR MP AMANDA RISHWORTH Liberal candidate Kelvin Binns â- Tory says: Amanda Rishworth is a solid campaigner and will work hard to see off her opponent. A whisper of polling that put Kingston up for grabs seems far-fetched, although as always the Xenophon factor can throw up surprises. The rollout of the northsouth corridor could still introduce some bumps.
MAKIN MARGIN 5.1% HELD BY LABOR MP TONY ZAPPIA Liberal candidate Graham Reynolds â- Tory says: Tony Zappia spent a decade as the Mayor of Salisbury so he's a well-known face in Makin. It will be hard work for Graham Reynolds to get traction against him - even though he is a local councillor. Apropos of nothing, Mr Zappia is a former power lifting champion and Mr Reynolds is a rocket scientist - well, he has a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
MAYO MARGIN 12.6% HELD BY LIBERAL MP JAMIE BRIGGS Labor candidate Glenn Dallimore (to be confirmed) â- Tory says: This is a scalp Nick Xenophon will be hoping to take. His candidate Rebekha Sharkie has a history in politics and even worked briefly for Jamie Briggs. As always the preference flows will be key.
Jamie Briggs should be safe as houses but has possibly sown the seeds of his own demise with a scandal that saw him booted out of the ministry and the unedifying sight of him in a wheelchair after late-night boozy shenanigans.
PORT ADELAIDE MARGIN 14.1% HELD BY LABOR MP MARK BUTLER Liberal candidate Emma Jane Flowerdew â- Tory says: Emma Jane Flowerdew will have to work hard to build up a profile in Port Adelaide - and she doesn't even have an online profile yet. Incumbent frontbencher Mark Butler will have a blast with the voters of Port Adelaide talking about "Malcolm's millionaires". It would take something shocking to loosen his grip.
STURT MARGIN 10.1% HELD BY LIBERAL MP CHRISTOPHER PYNE Labor candidate Matthew Loader â- Tory says: This could be the big sandbag seat of the election, but Christopher Pyne is a veteran campaigner and will have a war chest to protect him. Naturally Labor would love to claim the seat of a Cabinet minister, and Matthew Loader could succeed with the help of the Nick Xenophon Team. Expect to see lots of senior Ministers coming to town and spruiking their policies alongside Mr Pyne.
WAKEFIELD MARGIN 3.5% HELD BY LABOR MP NICK CHAMPION Liberal candidate Kathleen Bourne â- Tory says: It's hard to see voters affected by Holden closures swinging behind the Coalition in this northern suburbs seat. As a small businesswoman Kathleen Bourne has generous company tax cuts to sell, but it will be tough to stop that message being drowned out by past and looming job losses.
HINDMARSH MARGIN 1.9% HELD BY LIBERAL MP MATT WILLIAMS Labor candidate Steve Georganas â- Tory says:Matt Williams is facing a nail-biting campaign. He has established himself as a very vocal advocate for a local submarine build which should help him - although manufacturing job losses in his seat could erode that positive. He has a tiny margin and loses the usual incumbent advantage because SteveGeorganas held the seat before him.
