AUSTRALIA'S oldest man Alf Date was farewelled yesterday after he died aged 110. Mr Date, a father of seven, died peacefully at the Peninsula Village nursing home at Umina Beach on Monday night. He had been living at Peninsula Village since   December 2013. 
His daughter Marjorie Ransome said Mr Date didn't think too much about his age but did love a party.
"He did enjoy the celebrations of his birthday," Mrs Ransome said. A longtime football fan, Mr Date was surprised on his 110th birthday in   November with a Central Coast Mariners jersey from the A-League club's coach Tony Walmsley, as well as a visit from Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
At the time, he described his secret to longevity as "waking up every morning". Mrs Ransome said there were plenty of happy memories to look back on. "It's been a really eventful and really satisfying life," she said.His funeral at Green Point yesterday was conducted by his eldest son Robert, an Anglican minister.
