Boastfulness doesn't come to us naturally, but as we reported first yesterday on the interweb, Jason Pellegrino has been named CEO of search giant Google's Australian operations.
Currently the company's managing director of its Asian sales operation, Pellegrino replaces his former boss, Maile Carnegie, who resigned from Google at the beginning of March to head up all things digital at ANZ.
Pellegrino's appointment comes after a thorough external search, both here and internationally, in which shortlisted candidates flew to San Francisco to meet the tech company's top brass.
The appointment fits the theory that Google was looking to replace Carnegie - a former Procter and Gamble marketing executive in Singapore - with someone closer to its local agencies. Remember, while the vast majority of Google's mega-nerds and algorithm jockeys toil in Silicon Valley, its Aussie arm is dedicated principally to ad sales.
Pellegrino - a graduate of the University of Wollongong - will commence higher duties later this month. Vindication, given Pellegrino was passed over for Carnegie last time around.
