DONALD Trump's plan to build a wall on the US border will embolden deadly Mexican drug cartels to sharpen their targets on -Australia, -increasing the sea and mail-based smuggling of cocaine and ice here. Experts on the tactics of Mexican drug cartels have warned Mr Trump's bold plan to stop trafficking across the US/Mexican border will force the criminals to consider Australia for more of their financial hit. 
Mr Trump, who leads the Republican race for US president, has pledged to build a wall along the 3200km US border with Mexico.
The Sinaloa cartel is responsible for the majority of the Australian cocaine trade and the AFP is tracking Mexican crime groups building business in Australia with methamphetamines, but the problem is tipped to get worse. Australian Strategic Policy Institute head of border security program John Coyne said focusing on one area of border policy - like a wall - risked making problems worse elsewhere.
