If there were any doubts about how seriously Air New Zealand is viewing opportunities in Australia, the airline's sparkling new lounge at Brisbane International Airport should put them to rest. The facility is part of the airline's four-year $100 million program of developing its lounge network and follows the completion of the Sydney international, Auckland international, Auckland regional and Invercargill lounges. Others are in the pipeline.
Air New Zealand's strategic emphasis on "enhancing customer experience", both on the ground and in the air, is reaping rewards, with record results and international awards.
But that approach is, of course, great news for its passengers as well - right now, particularly for those passing through Queensland.
The latest purpose-built lounge covers more than 770 square metres and with room for 200, offers more than 70 per cent more seating than its predecessor.
It wraps around a corner of the airport terminal, and features high ceilings and expansive windows with views of Brisbane city and into the lower terminal.
The lounge is designed by award-winning US-based firm Gensler???, who are no strangers to tailoring spaces to very specific needs (the firm is responsible for many cutting-edge airport, hospitality, retail, educational and medical facilities). It features distinct zones, including a dedicated children's space away from the quiet havens for business travellers and others seeking a peaceful stay. The palette is restful, with pops of the colours used in Air New Zealand uniforms.
"We're proud to offer our customers a seamless transition to the new lounge and we're certain they will enjoy everything about the space," said Air New Zealand general manager Carrie Hurihanganui.
