Feminism, First World style. Greens councillor Misha Coleman said the initiative was a "unique and rare" way to display gender equity … "I'm a mother of two young children and we always talk about waiting for the 'green man'," Cr Coleman said. "From when kids are young enough to walk they are given an instruction by a man and it has never occurred to any of us that that is inherently so biased."
A review or a scold? Sarah Thomas, The Sydney Morning Herald, -yesterday: It is a strange time to be making "racial" jokes when the world is a hotbed of Islamophobia, the US is awash with battles over diversity and equality and its next potential leader is so rabidly xenophobic that he's been compared to Hitler. But that's where John Cleese takes the audience … Apparently it's a stand against the perceived constraints of political correctness, but quite what the fight is for when it's resulting in lazy jokes that should never have escaped the 1970s doesn't seem to be a particularly worthwhile or fruitful victory.
Don't forget to tweak the previous day's web copy if it's also running in the paper. The Age, yesterday: Daniel Andrews opened the door to compensation for residents in an interview on ABC radio this morning.
