AS Palladin said in the weekly western television serial from the 1950s and '60s, "Have gun, will travel".
And for many Territorians this is the time they will migrate south to enjoy the bird, deer and feral hunting seasons. 
Duck and quail are available in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Deer abound these days in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
Rabbit and fox hunting get the heart pumping for those who do their best to keep the feral population down. Pigs do the same in Queensland and NSW, and South Oz has a fair share of goats.
Western Australia is a basket case for the travelling shooter or hunter, so save your tourist spend for states where you are welcome.
Queensland and WA don't have bird-hunting seasons, but NSW has some good crop protection opportunities where you can hunt duck in the Riverina.
South Australia SA has announced its season for 2016, with changes to opening and closing dates and a reduced bag limit.
The season in South Australia will open on Saturday,   March 19, and close on Sunday,   June 26. For more details visit the DEWNR website.
Tasmania There have been no changes to the 2016 waterfowl hunting season on the Apple Isle. Opening weekend for wild duck hunting started yesterday, and will run through until   June 5. Bag limits remain at 10 birds per hunter, per day, with the usual restrictions on game species in Tasmania.
The season for brown quail will run from   May 14 to   June 26. For more information, visit the DPIPWE website.
Victoria The season will run the full 12 weeks from   March 19 to   June 13; however, the bag limits are again reduced from 2015, with an opening day limit of eight birds per hunter, then four birds per hunter, per day for the remainder of the season. Hunting of blue-winged shovelers is prohibited in Victoria for 2016.
