VIRTUAL reality goggles are being strapped on the world's best sales people in a next-generation pitch to sell Aussie holidays to the world.
Tourism Australia is immersing people in our most famous destinations, rolling out Samsung VR goggles at trade fairs in 15 key markets this year and deploying 5000 Google cardboard devices around the globe for holiday-makers to test.
The devices allow a person to see and hear 17 holiday scenarios, turning to look around, above and below in a 360 degree view.
Filmed with drones and special cameras, the "360 videos" have been viewed by nearly 1 million people online since their launch recently, and include snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef, floating on a surfboard on the Gold Coast and watching dolphins off Tasmania.Tourism Australia managing director John O'Sullivan hopes people will soon be able to smell seafood cooking and feel the sand between their toes as well.
