Melbourne-born Kyrie Irving provided the game winner, and an Australian connection, in the Cleveland Cavaliers' historic game-seven win in the National Basketball Association finals on Monday.
Irving, who scored a game-clinching three-pointer in the last minute of the match against the Golden State Warriors, was born in Melbourne.
His American father Drederick played for a local team.
He and star teammate LeBron James led Cleveland to a famous victory, the first by a team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in NBA finals history and the first by a Cleveland major sports team in 52 years.
Their teammate Matthew Dellavedova became the latest Australian to win an NBA title, though he did not appear in game seven and will now be a free agent.
A crucial factor in the Warriors' loss was an injury to their Australian centre Andrew Bogut in game five of the series. Bogut's tough defence was missed by Golden State and he could miss the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Australian entrepreneurs Ruslan Kogan and Mike Cannon-Brookes were in the sell-out crowd in Oakland, where two courtside seats sold for $49,000 each.
Attention now turns to the NBA draft on Friday, in which Australian Ben Simmons is expected to be the number-one pick.
