RUGBY UNION 15. ISRAEL FOLAU 7.5 His early high mark of a wet ball was class and his handling all night was superb, but for a turnover late in the game. A standout among all backs on the field but the supreme English defence always scrambled to cover him. Had 13 runs for 129m.
14. DANE HAYLETT-PETTY 6.5 Not securing two contestable high kicks in the early stages seemed to rattle him a little, because he dropped a pass cold shortly after. Rallied by taking a pass at bootlace height to set rolling the Wallabies' 21-phase assault on halftime. Chased kicks hard and made some strong surges in the second half when always chasing work.
13. TEVITA KURIDRANI 6 Quiet first half. Never open space for the big outside centre but with all the ball that the Wallabies commanded he should have been able to impose himself on the game far more.
12. SAMU KEREVI 7 Always ran strongly into the defence, and his double-touch involvement just before halftime was part of the Wallabies' resurgence. Excellent 60 minutes, and it took two England defenders to drag the centre down every time he ran.
11. ROB HORNE 6.5 Terrific defence and made back-to-back tackles early when the Wallabies were on the back foot. Never given any room to scoot down the touchline but did not show the sparkle to shake free either with the few chances he had.
10. BERNARD FOLEY 6 Dodgy kick from a penalty when didn't find touch early. Never stopped trying to ignite the Wallabies in attack but the defence smothered him. He spilt two passes under the pressure, albeit not getting great service in slippery conditions. English five-eighth George Ford outkicked him in general play. Needed more inside runners. A tough night.
9. NICK PHIPPS 5.5 Made some fine tackles on big forwards and the player the English targeted as often as possible. English flanker Chris Robshaw somehow escaped a first-half penalty when he neck-rolled the halfback in the tackle that ignited the big first-half flare-up. Poor passing let Foley down several times.
8. SEAN McMAHON 7 Huge motor and came into his own in the 20 minutes to end the first half with multiple carries including one bumping, driving run through two defenders. Hands let him down once, but proved he deserved to start at No.8.
7. MICHAEL HOOPER 6Close to Australia's best with his regular metres as a powerful and willing runner. The flanker was excellent in defence. He was the stand-in captain with 15 minutes to play when he made a poor call, and that chips a full point from his rating. The Wallabies could have taken a kick for penalty goal from right in front at 13-7 behind, but Hooper decided on a kick to touch for a lineout. The opportunity was squandered.
