OFFICIAL events that celebrate Australia Day throughout the CBD contribute more than $1 million to the city economy every year, a new study has found.
For the first time, the State Government has evaluated the financial benefits behind the Australia Day in the City community parade, night concert and fireworks over the past six years.
It found that the January 26 events in Elder Park generated a "total spend" of about $1 million, created employment for at least 1600 people and "improves the image of the city".The report was commissioned by the Australia Day Council as part of a lobbying campaign to secure Adelaide City Council funding.
