Players accused of fixing a mixed doubles match at the Australian Open in January have been cleared by the sport's corruption authority. David Marrero (left), one of the players suspected of throwing the match, told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday he had been cleared. That was confirmed by the Tennis Integrity Unit. Marrero and Lara Arruabarrena played Lukasz Kubot and Andrea Hlavackova on January 24, in a first-round match. Pinnacle Sports, an international bookmaker, suspended betting an hour before the match because of the amount wagered on Kubot and Hlavackova - who won in straight sets in 49 minutes. Pinnacle handed betting data to Victoria Police's sporting integrity intelligence unit, which is investigating the match. It is not believed the TIU findings will influence this investigation. As revealed by Fairfax Media in February, of greater concern to authorities than the amount wagered was who was making the bets, including a major European-based punter previously linked to wins on other suspicious matches. Speaking at the French Open, Marrero told the Journal: "I knew I hadn't done anything so I would be fine. I'm very happy now everything is over."
