THE Wanamaker Trophy isn't the only thing on offer at the US PGA Championship in New Jersey.
It is also the last chance to earn -automatic qualification for the World Cup of Golf in November.
Positions on the world rankings as of Monday will determine eligibility for the World Cup, which is being played at Melbourne's Kingston Heath and will feature defending PGA champion and world No.1 Jason Day representing Australia.
The top players from 28 countries will automatically qualify. Should they commit to the event, they will be able to choose a playing partner.
As it stands, the top 10 includes Day, Dustin Johnson (US), Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Open champ Henrik Stenson (Sweden), Masters winner Danny Willett (England) and Sergio Garcia (Spain).
Commitments from even half of them would ensure a stellar event. And with world No.3 Jordan Spieth having signed on to play in the Australian Open the week before, his presence at Kingston Heath is highly likely.
Day, who won the last World Cup of Golf with Adam Scott at Royal Melbourne in 2013, wants to play with Scott, and both will be playing at the Australian Open at Royal Sydney.
"Players not already qualified have one final opportunity to compete for the right to represent their country on the global stage in a team-oriented format, and we look forward to soon finalising the 28 two-man teams that will represent their countries in Melbourne," World Cup executive director Matt Kamienski said.Once qualified, players have until August 15 to officially commit.
