WA will have another pair of Olympic debutants this year after Rhys Grant and David Watts were yesterday confirmed in the Australian rowing team for Rio.
Grant, 29, will become the State's first Olympic representative in the men's single scull after earning his spot with a second-placed finish at the final regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland in May.
Watts, 24, will partner Chris Morgan in the double scull. He won a silver medal as a member of the Australian men's quad scull at last year's world championships in France.
Australia will have eight boats competing at Rio, with a 20-strong squad named.
The men will be competing in the single, double and quadruple sculls, coxless fours and men's pair.
Women's boats have been entered in the single, double and quadruple sculls.
Josh Booth, sent home from the London Olympics in disgrace four years ago, has been selected in the flagship men's fours boat.
They won silver in London and have been among the leading fours in the world this year, making Booth, Josh Dunkley-Smith, Will Lockwood and Alex Hill genuine medal contenders.
It caps a remarkable comeback for Booth, who considered giving the sport away to focus on his medical degree after a forgettable Games debut as a member of the men's eight in London.
Just 21 at the time, the Melbourne oarsman was arrested and locked up after drowning his sorrows and damaging two shopfronts in the hours following the eight's loss in the final.
But restitution to the businesses he damaged, an impassioned apology and his heartfelt remorse impressed officials who have kept Booth close to the sport since.
The men's four are among a handful of Australian boats who head to Rio with realistic hopes of a medal.
