MINORITY government is "Australia's worst nightmare", new Nationals MP and former AFL coach Damian Drum said.
Mr Drum is set to claim the seat of Murray after long-serving Liberal Sharman Stone retired, and he said voters told him they didn't want minority government.
"That'd be, I think, Australia's worst nightmare," Mr Drum said. "There hasn't been anybody in the campaign, all the thousands and thousands of people I've met asking for the situation we might be looking at.
"That's certainly been the feeling in this electorate, that people were very keen for whoever wins to get on and govern." Mr Drum said he had run a positive campaign, helped by a steady parade of National party ministers coming to Murray, which includes the towns of Shepparton, Echuca and Yarrawonga."The people saw that we were deadly serious about making sure that voters aren't taken for granted," Mr Drum said.
