A Queensland Coalition senator has offered a bizarre analogy about losing the election.
Minister for Northern Australia Matt Canavan, a rising star of the LNP who was appointed to the ministry by PM Malcolm Turnbull in 2015, wants to continue in the portfolio that aims to attract large-scale investment to the region.
"Losing this would be like losing a child," he said.
"There are a lot of people who were there for the birth of this and we're still only just getting started."There's already half a billion dollars worth of investment projects ... we are really looking forward to getting stuck in and start building things."
