THE nation's electoral watchdog will review its processes after voters yesterday faced lengthy queues to cast their votes as new rules on Senate voting triggered "giant" papers.
Scores of voters expressed their frustration after waiting in queues in some areas for more than an hour, particularly in knife-edge metropolitan seats.
People reported long lines, which stretched hundreds of metres in some areas, in seats including Adelaide, Boothby, Sturt and Hindmarsh.
Election officials, and station volunteers, suggested they may have been by triggered by voters spending more time on "giant" senate voting papers.
The Australian Electoral Commission last night announced a poll review will investigate how polling stations operated.
The AEC's SA state manager Paul Hawes said the review would include whether senate reforms had contributed to waiting times."At this stage I can confirm … having more queues then we normally have," he said. "I am sure there are some places that are twiddling their thumbs."
