Promising opening batsman Cameron Bancroft, who missed his chance at a Test debut last year because of the cancellation of the series in Bangladesh, will make his international debut for Australia as a wicketkeeper-batsman in Sunday's series-ending Twenty20 against India.
The 23-year-old has been chosen ahead of specialist wicketkeepers such as Tim Paine and Tim Ludeman, and last summer's Twenty20 gloveman Ben Dunk, to replace Matthew Wade.
Wade is one of eight Australians who will fly to New Zealand on Saturday morning to prepare for next week's one-day series against the Black Caps.
Bancroft has typically been seen as a red-ball specialist, so much so that he did not receive a Big Bash League deal last season as he only played as an injury-replacement player for the Perth Scorchers.
