Promising opening batsman Cameron Bancroft, who missed his chance at a Test debut last year because of the cancellation of the series in Bangladesh, will make his international debut for Australia as a wicketkeeper-batsman in Sunday's series-ending Twenty20 against India.
The 23-year-old has been chosen ahead of specialist wicketkeepers such as Tim Paine and Tim Ludeman, and last summer's Twenty20 gloveman Ben Dunk, to replace Matthew Wade.
Wade is one of eight Australians who will fly to New Zealand on Saturday morning to prepare for next week's one-day series against the Black Caps.
It was already known that Steve Smith and David Warner were to fly to New Zealand on Saturday.
Cricket Australia on Friday confirmed the other six one-day squad members who will be part of the advance party: Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Marsh, Adam Zampa, Wade, Kane Richardson and John Hastings.
The departure of five players from Australia's original 17-man Twenty20 squad, and the inclusion of Bancroft, means Australia will have a 13-man squad for the final international match of the home summer, at the SCG.
Bancroft has typically been seen as a red-ball specialist, so much so that he did not receive a Big Bash League deal last season as he only played as an injury-replacement player for the Perth Scorchers.
Bancroft has begun to shed those reputations this season, firstly by blasting 176 off 155 deliveries in his first match in the Matador Cup and then managing three 40-plus scores later in the tournament.
