DARWIN welcomed 67 new Australian citizens at the Ent-ertainment Centre yesterday morning.
The new Aussies originate from 23 countries including the UK, Belgium and Canada. 
The Lord   Mayor Katrina Fong initiated the ceremony, saying the service was a "very special time".
"It's a chance to reflect on what we can become," she said.
"I love providing the citizenship ceremony and inducting new citizens to end their old citizenship journey but begin their new Australian citizen journey." For Moudou Tall from Senegal, contributing to the democratic system is what his citizenship is all about.
"I just want to make sure when I vote I do the best thing for the population," he said.
Sharmaine Warnakulaarachchiralalage, who is originally from Sri Lanka, said: "I've been waiting a long time for this. I chose Australia bec-ause I thought it was better for my kids to be able to settle and to study."Federal Member of Parliament Natasha Griggs attended on behalf of the Minister for Immigration and Border Pat-rol Peter Dutton, and passed on messages of unity from both Mr Dutton and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
