KATHERINE will be the only place that might need to pull out at brolly to cover the barbecue on Australia Day.
There's a 60 per cent chance of rain tomorrow in Katherine but everywhere else in the NT is looking pretty dry with an average of a just 20 per cent chance of rain.
Weather bureau senior forecaster Graeme King said the dry skies won't hang around for long with a monsoon predicted for the end of the week.
"There's hints of the monsoon coming back at the end of the week," he said. Mr King said the Madden-Julian Oscillation is moving back towards the Territory. The rain would be needed with very little rainfall across the Top End this January."We're a long way behind the average so even if the monsoon comes in we've got a lot of ground to make up," Mr King said.
