FROM Wurrumiyanga to Alice Springs, Borroloola to Timber Creek, the 2016 Australia Day events calendar has the -Territory covered.
Whether it's an official flag-raising ceremony, playing cricket with one of Australia's greats, pitching a thong, or having a barbie, this year's activities offer something for all.
"We recognise that January 26 has a vastly different meaning for many Australians, and we respect that," Australia Day Council NT chairman Daryl Manzie said.
"The Territory demonstrates a very positive approach to Australia Day. We take pride in recognising and celebrating the great achievements of Territorians and embracing the cultural diversity of our communities. Where else in Australia could you do an early morning fun run, attend a citizenship ceremony, have kangaroo tail stew and damper for breakfast, dress up your ute or enjoy the entertainment of several multicultural performances all in one day?" In addition to family and sporting events, Australia Day provides an opportunity to meet real Aussie heroes through the Ambassadors program, and celebrate the contribution our Australian of the Year finalists have made to society. The 2016 Ambassadors will visit communities across the NT including: " Alice Springs: Emma Rossi (broadcaster) " Nhulunbuy: Amy Hetherington (NT program champion) " Tennant Creek: Corey Payne (NRL) " Katherine: Simon Westaway (actor) " Darwin: Paula Duncan (actor) "It is my special honour to thank the NT Australian of the Year Award recipients and wish them well for the national award ceremony in Canberra on Monday, January 25," Mr Manzie said.
"From helping the homeless to working with young people or campaigning for the repatriation of our fallen soldiers from abroad, these Territorians have all demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the wider community."
