IT'S a day of national celebration but campaigners for the Where's William Tyrrell Foundation will also use -Australia Day to call for new information about the young boy's disappearance and one of the country's longest-running child -abduction cases.
January 26 will mark 501 days since toddler William was abducted from his grandmother's yard in the small town of Kendall on-- - September 12 in 2014. It will also mark 50 years since the three young Beaumont children disappeared without a trace from an Adelaide beach in 1966.
Australia's leading child protection advocate, and spokeswoman for William's family, Hetty Johnston said it was important that Australia stood up for all abducted children this -Australia Day. "Abducting children was unacceptable in 1966 and it's unacceptable in 2016," she said.
"There could be no better day than on Australia Day when we as a nation celebrate all that is great about this country, to also reflect on what is not great.
"What is not great is that 50 years on, something as insidious as the -abduction of a child can still happen in this country; that William ... could -simply vanish, taken from those he loved. Every piece of information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could provide the vital clues police are looking for."Anyone with information on either case is urged to contact Crime -Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
