MELBOURNE Victory's visa stars are the poster boys for multicultural Australia. And before long Besart Berisha, Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Gui Finkler could all be dinky-di Aussies.
As Victory prepares for its U-NITE match on Australia Day against Sydney FC at Etihad Stadium, Berisha, Ben Khalfallah and Finkler have spoken about the possibility of becoming citizens.
Ben Khalfallah and his young family intend to stay in Melbourne for life, with the winger keen to immerse himself in the Australian coaching ranks once his playing days are over.
The French-born Tunisian has applied for residency status, but will not be able to push for citizenship, which would have enabled him to count as an Australian player on A-League books, for almost four years.
Brazilian Finkler, in his fourth Victory campaign, is open to applying for citizenship once his time in Australia ticks past the five-year requirement, but much will depend on whether the out-of-contract midfielder remains beyond this season.
Berisha's case is particularly curious given he recently signed a new two-year deal to remain as one of Victory's marquee players until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The 30-year-old, who may yet play for Albania at this year's European Championships in France, has been in Australia since signing for Brisbane in August 2011.
Should he choose to apply for Australian citizenship in the coming months, there -remains the possibility the striker will not occupy one of Victory's five visa spots next season.
"I think I can be because I would already be five years here, but I have to see," Berisha said.
"I'm not sure how the rules are in Australia so I honestly haven't read much into it.
"It would be funny, if I keep staying here I have to be something don't I? I'm -already half Aussie, I've been here so long.
"I would love to stay here, but there is a lot of thinking I have to do with my kids and if they want to go to school here.
"All of my family is overseas, but it's a small sacrifice I will make if I stay forever here.
"Everything I want in respect to football I find here."If I finish football and I can work in football here I will stay because I don't know much else."
