KINGSTON Beach will be brimming with a sea of Australian flags and green and gold outfits as part of celebrations for Australia Day.
About 10,000 people are expected to flock to the beach on Tuesday for the 10th annual A Day on the Beach celebrations, which have become a mainstay of Australia Day.
It will feature sporting activities in the water and on the beach, with a plethora of food and live entertainment also on offer.
Included will be a sand sculpture competition, beach volleyball, photo booth, tug of war, ocean swim, big Australia barbecue and inflatable thong race.
There are also plenty of activities for kids, including a giant inflatable slide and jumping castle, disco, treasure hunt and, for the first time, a Lego beach display and play area.
Kingston Beach Regatta Association chairman and Kingborough councillor Mike Percey said the main attraction would be free activities.
"The event provides a great day out for families looking for a cheap and hassle-free way to celebrate Australia Day," Cr Percey said.
Surf Life Saving Tasmania junior life saver Ryan Talbot, 17, said he was looking forward to the day.
"It's always a good day, we normally do things around water safety as there's a swim, which is always fun," he said.
The event kicks off with a breakfast at 8am and activities continue until 2pm. Also marking Australia Day festivities in Hobart is the Sandy Bay Regatta, which is expected to draw 15,000 people to Long Beach between 8am and 4pm.
The headline act this year is the return of V8 powerboats after an absence of more than 20 years, while other events vary from sailing, rowing, surf lifesaving, windsurfing and kayaking.
On-land events include sideshows, obstacle courses and a scavenger hunt, with an Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at 11am featuring 68 candidates from 27 countries.
Hobart Mayor Sue Hickey will preside over the ceremony.
"You see so many people emotional and happy, as they have lived here for 20 years," she said.
"They pledge to our laws as they want to be an Australian [and] we have taken that [Australian] lifestyle for granted."For all other activities in Tasmania, including citizenship and Australia Day award ceremonies, head to tas.australiaday.org.au and select the events menu.
