FOREIGN Minister Julie Bishop will urge America's top businesses to invest in Australian innovation, using a landmark speech to declare the nation's future is -bigger than mining. 
In her first pitch to the lucrative US market since the Turnbull government announced a $1 billion innovation package, Ms Bishop will today tell top American business chiefs that the world's next top creators can be from Australia.
The Foreign Minister will hold meetings in the US aimed at driving investment and entrepreneurship in Australia ahead of the celebrity G'Day US gala next week in LA.
Ms Bishop's bid to drive investment Down Under will coincide with Hollywood celebrity Chris Hemsworth launching Tourism Australia's new campaign in New York on the eve of Australia Day.
In today's pitch, attended by Fortune 500 companies, Ms Bishop will cite a series of Australian innovations including Google maps technology, quantum computers, drone delivery and carbon fibre wheels as examples of what the nation is capable of.
Ms Bishop will also talk up the ability of Australia's economy to transition from the mining sector to innovation."Australia is continuing to embrace innovation at the heart of our economic policies as our economy transitions back from a focus on resource based investment to a broader based and more diverse economy. Innovation is the watchword," she says.
