The Fed Cup Foundation, the organisation that is the voice of women's tennis in Australia, is alarmed and dismayed by the sudden resignation of Tennis Australia's only two female board members, former players Janet Young and Kerryn Pratt.
TA is still yet to comment on the crisis, with the respected pair joined in a mass exit by experienced Tasmanian businessman Peter Armstrong at the start of the governing body's showcase event, the Australian Open.
Fed Cup Foundation vice-president, Brigette McGuire, said the lack of female representation in the TA boardroom was of enormous concern.
"It is disappointing to see that the only two female directors in the sport at either state or in this case national level have resigned," McGuire said. "This leaves us with no representation on any board in Australia."
The reasons for the departures are unclear, with neither Young nor Pratt responding to approaches from Fairfax Media and no comment by lunchtime from TA, with a representative saying a statement was being prepared.
Young, a successful academic and former Fed Cup-winning player has served as a director since 2008, while Pratt and Armstrong joined the board two years ago.
McGuire, who is also on the advisory board of the Monash Business School and a former TA marketing director with experience across all levels of the sport, said she would consider possibly running for the board in the future. "But the caveat is to certainly understand what has happened for the dramatic resignations of these very good people. Why has this occurred?"
