AUSTRALIA Australia defeated India in the World Cup semi-final by 95 runs, but the side that starts the upcoming series against the Indians will be very different to the one that played at the SCG in March.
Then-captain Michael Clarke, wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson have all retired, Shane Watson has been axed and Mitchell Starc is injured. And with a baby on the way, there's no guarantee David Warner will play in the series opener. Cricket Australia is ready to give him paternity leave as soon as he asks for it.
If Warner doesn't play, Shaun Marsh will likely come into the side to open the innings with Aaron Finch.
Australia XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith (c), George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wk), James Faulkner, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Joel Paris
INDIA Expect India's batting order for the first game to be similar to the one that lost the March semi-final with the exception of Suresh Raina, who was left out of the squad altogether after an abject series against South Africa. India have a few options to replace Raina, but having made 58 in India's last hitout against a Western Australia XI, expect Manish Pandey to edge Gurkeerat Singh into the side.
Mohammed Shami, the leader of India's pace attack in the World Cup, has been ruled out for the series with a hamstring injury and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rushed in as his replacement
India possible XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni (c/ wk), Manish Pandey, Ravi Jadeja, Rishi Dhawan, Ravi Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Barindar Sran.
