Key batsman Carlos Brathwaite
Brathwaite was reputed to be able to hold a bat, but he has started to impressive and the tag of bowling all-rounder may be inadequate. In the past five years Darren Bravo is the only West Indies player to reach 50 in each of his first two Tests.
Key bowler Josh Hazlewood
Only had to wait one over after lunch to get his hands on the new ball. The right-armer started impressively, consistently getting the ball to swing away from right-handers Braithwaite and Denesh Ramdin, particularly troubling the latter.
Key numbers
3 Deliveries bowled by Nathan Lyon at the start of the day before rain halted play for the first time. Because play began at 10.38am, rather than the scheduled 10.40am and lasted only one minute it meant the play was halted for the first time one minute before it officially began.
2 Overs bowled at the Randwick End by someone other than Nathan Lyon, since the off-spinner replaced James Pattinson in the eight over of the match, until the second new ball was taken.
40 Minutes elapsed as match was halted between 12.30pm and 1.10pm for the official lunch break, despite there being only 10 minutes of play beforehand. To write if off as a peculiarity of cricket, given the weather cleared beforehand, was of small comfort to the fans who remained at the SCG.
68 The number of deliveries bowled on day two. Once it reached the 10-over mark patrons lost the right to be able to claim a full refund on their ticket, but CA overlooked the extra deliveries and gave everyone a full refund.
The moment
Carlos Brathwaite showed no fear in deciding to repeatedly sweep Steve O'Keefe on day one. He was even pluckier on day two. Facing James Pattinson, the towering 27-year-old twice dispatched him over the fence with the new ball in the space of three deliveries.
