AUSTRALIA'S top tournaments will have to make a deft grab for marquee stars a week either side of the World Cup of Golf at Kingston Heath in Melbourne next summer.
Dates are yet to be revealed but the Australian Open seems certain to occupy the November 17-20 slot before the World Cup ( November 24-27) while the Australian PGA will sit a week later ( December 1-4).
Hooking potential World Cup players like world No.1 Jordan Spieth, England's Justin Rose or South African Branden Grace to arrive a week earlier or stay on a week for a two-week Aussie visit is the trick. International scheduling dictates access to drawcard golfers.
One big positive is South Africa's rich Nedbank Challenge shifting three weeks earlier to a mid- November date because too often it competes with Australia's big events.
It means defending Nedbank champion Marc Leishman is certain to create a South Africa-Sydney loop to play the Australian Open.
Top European performers like 2013 Australian Open champion Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer and Rose are all out of Open calculations because it conflicts with their Tour Championship finale in Dubai.
The Australian PGA at Royal Pines is co-sanctioned by the European Tour. Brokering a deal to get a major winner like Rose or Kay-mer to headline would take the tournament to a new level if local heroes Jason Day and Adam Scott can be locked in.
â- BRANDT Snedeker has bounced back from his 84-75 embarrassment at December's Australian PGA to be one of the PGA Tour's form players.
After two top-three finishes in Hawaii, he shot a super three-under-par 69 yesterday in the wild weather-delayed Farmers Insurance Open to contend at Torrey Pines in California.
Those who completed rounds averaged 78 while pro debutant Ryan Ruffels was six-over with three holes left when play was suspended.
â- QUEENSLAND Academy of Sport graduate Cory Crawford, 23, will make his pro debut on Thursday in the Victorian Open at 13th Beach Golf Links. Those who like omens after Richard Green and Norwegian fiancee Marianne Skarpnord won the Vic Opens last year can now follow another couple, NSW PGA champion Jarryd Felton and Hannah Green.
