Australia's poor start to their tour of New Zealand has gotten worse with Kane Richardson the latest paceman to break down.
In another hit to Australia's dwindling fast bowling stocks, Richardson has hurt his back, forcing him out of the second one-day international against New Zealand in Wellington. His place in the XI has been taken by Scott Boland.
Australia are bowling first in the second one-dayer after losing the toss.
Richardson bowled briefly on Saturday but soon realised he would not be able to play.
The South Australian will have scans but will have to wait as it is a public holiday long weekend in New Zealand. He is also in extreme doubt for the third and final game on Monday.
"Kane had some back pain following the first ODI and hasn't recovered sufficiently to take part in today's match," a CA spokesperson said.
