Australia's women's sevens team has completed a three-game series whitewash over Ireland as it prepares for the second leg of the World Series in Sao Paulo, Brazil from February 20-21.
Australia lead the World Series and they laid down the marker early on Saturday as they defeated Ireland 26-7 in game one of the invitational series.
They continued their dominance over their Irish opponents on day two, defeating them 29-7 in the second game and 24-0 in the final. Head coach Tim Walsh was satisfied with the clean sweep but understood the need to test their mettle against more experienced opponents.
''Obviously we love close games that really challenge, really test us, but at the same time [against] other teams we can start to try stuff and put us in different situations, but very fortunate to have Ireland make the trip all the way here to play games and no doubt they got a lot out of it,'' Walsh said.
''Certainly in terms of our preparation it was perfectly situated and perfectly timed for that sort of hit-out heading into round two of the World Series.''
Shenae Ciesiolka impressed with some silky footwork while Ellia Green, Evania Pelite and Emma Tonegato were tied for top try-scorer with two tries each. Nicole Beck epitomised Australia's attitude with a try-saving tackle behind her posts after Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe dawdled with the ball.
