INDIE rock goddess Courtney Barnett will enjoy a huge surge in her profile in America this week, whether or not she wins the Best New Artist award at the Grammys.
Barnett (pictured) may not be easily recognised by the red carpet crew when she arrives at LA's Staples Center on Tuesday but YouTube is an indicator her popularity will soar by the time the show is over.
Her views doubled in the week after she was announced as a surprise nominee alongside British folker James Bay, retro pop princess Meghan Trainor, American country crooner Sam Hunt and pop belter Tori Kelly.
Many American critics have cited Barnett as their choice to win an award. She is wryly pragmatic about her chances of winning.
"Um, about one in five?" she told Billboard, admitting she also wasn't up to speed on her competition for Best New Artist.
"I don't know, I've never followed the Grammys, I don't know. But it's just nice to have that recognition on such a huge international scale."Barnett will be in good company at this year's Grammys with fellow Australian rockers Tame Impala up for Best Alternative Album, Keith Urban contesting Best Country Solo Performance and Hiatus Kaiyote nominated for the second year running, this time for Best R&B Performance.
