DEAL FOR A KINGDOM â- Was founded by Adelaide entrepreneur Sir Sidney Kidman in 1899. â- Sir Sidney went on to become the greatest pastoral landholder in Australia's history, earning the nickname "The Cattle King".
â- The company is now owned by 58 shareholders, with some of those in turn owned by multiple family members.
â- The sale process was started in April last year, with numerous bidders initially interested.
â- Treasurer Scott Morrison late last year blocked a full sale to foreign owners on national security grounds.
â- The Anna Creek station, near the Woomera defence testing range, was then carved out of the deal.
â- After months of speculation, the Kidman board yesterday announced Dakang Australia and Australian Rural Capital are the preferred bidders in a deal worth $370.7 million.
â- Any deal must be signed off by the Treasurer and the Foreign Investment Review Board.
â- If an election were called any deal would be postponed beyond the election date.
â- Kidman shareholders have been asked to decide whether to accept the deal by August 5.
WHO ARE THE BIDDERS â- Dakang Australia will buy 80 per cent of the company and ASX listed company Australian Rural Capital will own 20 per cent.
â- Dakang is 49 per cent owned by Gui Guo Jie's company Shanghai Cred Real Estate. â- Mr Gui, below, last week announced a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal with Port Adelaide Football Club.
â- The other 51 per cent is owned by Dakang Pasture Farming, which is listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange.
â- That company is in turn 55 per cent owned by Shanghai Pengxin group, which has long been rumoured to be the leading bidder for Kidman.
