THE Australian Ballet is heading to London where it will perform two of its signature works.
Graeme Murphy's much loved and performed Swan Lake will be staged alongside the first European performance of Alexei Ratmansky's Cinderella.
The company will perform at West End's Coliseum theatre from July 13-23, in what will be its 25th international tour.
Previous tours have taken in 87 cities in 37 countries.
The dancers opening Swan Lake will be principal artists Amber Scott (Odette) and Adam Bull (Prince) with soloist Dimity Azoury (Duchess). Opening Cinderella will be Leanne Stojmenov (Cinderella) and Daniel Gaudiello (Prince).
Artistic director David McAllister says the tour will showcase the company's distinctive talents to one of the world's great ballet cities.
"As a dancer I still remember my first time performing in London," he says. "It's a city that has seen all of the best ballet companies from across the globe.
"Our ties go back generations and bringing the company back to the birthplace of our founding artistic director, Peggy van Praagh, is always a thrill." McAllister says Swan Lake and Cinderella are ideal to showcase Australia's dancers on the world stage.
"Both encompass our motto of caring for tradition, but also daring to be different," he says.
"In each work the dancers have not only embraced the choreographic challenges, but through many seasons have developed multi-layered characters which drive the storytelling in both ballets."The company's last tour to London was in 2008 when it performed Les Presages and Rites with Bangarra Dance Theatre.
