Adam Scott is eager to return to the Gold Coast in December for a shot at winning a second Australian PGA crown at Royal Pines after bypassing the event last year.
The 2013 champion said the tournament was in his sights after a date clash last year when he played in a PGA Tour event run by Tiger Woods in the Bahamas, where he is based.
"The tournament is obviously always on my radar and I think the chances could be good of playing this year," Scott said at the US Masters.
"Missing last year was through exceptional circum-stances I'd say. This year, I'd like to stay at home in Queensland, which would make it really easy to play." His Sanctuary Cove base in Queensland is only 20 minutes up the highway from the Royal Pines resort, where the Australian PGA will be played from December 1 to 4, with Victorian Nathan Holman as defending champion.
Scott's positive reaction is good news before any definitive statement that world No. 1 Jason Day is likely to play the Australian Open at Royal Sydney, the World Cup at Melbourne's Kingston Heath and the Australian PGA in consecutive weeks.
Scott is disappointed to see the demise of the Australian Masters. "It's really disappointing," said Scott, a two-time winner of the gold jacket in 2012-13. "I hope it's only temporary. It's been a great tournament for me and one of those which inspired me to play." Whether Scott is available for Olympics selection now golf is back as a sport is still to be clarified.Six golfers - Jason Day, Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, Matt Jones, John Senden and Steven Bowditch - have been measured for Olympic team uniforms to cover all selection eventualities.
