Australia's women's sevens side have completed a trifecta of World Series tournament wins with a narrow 24-19 victory over New Zealand in final of the Atlanta Sevens on Sunday morning.
Australia have been the benchmark of this year's World Series with wins in Dubai and Sao Paulo before another clinical showing in Atlanta assured them of a third consecutive title - a feat they have not achieved before.
The victory puts Australia (60) well clear of New Zealand (46) on the World Series rankings. Canada (42) and England (40) are in third and fourth respectively.
Australia needs another 27 points in the final two tournaments in Canada and France to secure a maiden World Series crown.
Captain Shannon Parry was ecstatic after the game, saying: "Just glad to get the trophy in the last dance. We're about building momentum towards the Olympics and that's what every team is charging for."
Charlotte Caslick caught New Zealand napping midway through the second half as she scurried down the right wing for her fourth try of the tournament to extend Australia's lead to 24-7 and all but secure yet another piece of silverware.
Two late tries from New Zealand kept things interesting, but a dominant first half from the Australians set up the win.
Australia made an early breakthrough within two minutes courtesy of Caslick who sliced through a number of defenders to score under the posts. Shortly after Alicia Quirk made a break down the left edge and dummied inside but spotted a gap to put Australia up 12-0.
New Zealand were rattled from the outset - they dropped easy high balls and were on the end of some brutal tackles from an Australian outfit determined to prove why they are the favourites heading into the Rio Olympics.
There was even an intercept pass which gifted Emilee Cherry a try on a silver platter to give Australia a 19-0 lead just before half-time.
