AN important art collection will be auctioned by Small and Whitfield Auctions on Monday at 6pm.
The offering includes a range of works from the private collection of renowned South Australian artist Tom Gleghorn. 
Born in 1925, Mr Gleghorn began painting at the age of 24. Inspired by the works of William Dobell, who gave him early encouragement, he began exhibiting in Sydney from 1954. By the late 1950s, he was one of the country's most prominent visual artists.
He is still one of Australia's leading artists, with works represented across Australian and European galleries, including the National Gallery of Australia and corporate collections in London and Hong Kong.
The auction on Monday will include works from artists such as Charles Blackman, James Gleeson, Tony Tuckson, John Coburn, Pro Hart, Robert Juniper, Donald Friend, Elaine Haxton, Reg Livermore, John Perceval, Louis James, Alan Oldfield and Eric Smith.
A highlight is a Gleghorn painting Tomb, based on his visits to the Etruscan Tombs in Italy, while on the Helena Rubinstein travelling Scholarship 1962-1964. Its estimate at auction is $15,000 to $25,000.
