THE FACTORS Track: Soft 7 Rail: True Forecast: Mostly sunny 29C THE SPEED Real query on the speed. Roughie ALFDEN may take up the running. Damien Oliver on JAMEKA will push forward and may reprise her on-pace VRC Oaks run. TARZINO settled close to the lead in the Rosehill Guineas and will do so again. Tally can be handy. Most settle back.
THE SKINNY Michael Manley's analysis TARZINO Genuine star and impossible to find a knock on him. Distance not a problem, nor a wet track. Had the Rosehill Guineas won a long way from home in similar fashion to the Victoria Derby. Rosehill Guineas winners have won two of the past three Australian Derbys.
VANBRUGH Stays all day and carries the Waller polish. Found trouble in the closing stages in the Rosehill Guineas but still finished well. Strong colt who should appreciate the 2400m.
ETYMOLOGY Tried hard when runner-up to Tarzino in the Victoria Derby. Battled away in the Rosehill Guineas. Could fill a place again.
TALLY The wildcard coming from different formlines. Has won four in a row since the blinkers went on. Last start in the Alister Clark Stakes he easily defeated Palentino, who beat Tarzino in the Australian Guineas.
SOVEREIGN NATION Promises a lot but tends to find trouble. Fought on when fourth in the Rosehill Guineas. Should be competitive.
TORGERSEN Finished strongly when second to Old North in the Tulloch Stakes. Half brother to 2009 Doncaster winner Vision Of Power.
GOLD AMBITION Trapped wide and pulled up lame after the Rosehill Guineas so forget that run. Previously ran on well when second in the Randwick Guineas.
WHAT'S THE STORY Kiwi colt in the same stable as Sunline. Ran on strongly to just miss in the New Zealand Derby after finding trouble mid-race. Last year NZ Derby winner Mongolian Khan went on to win this race. Topical tip with Noel Gallagher on tour here.
TAVAGO Another Kiwi. Struck trouble and gave away a huge start when beaten less than two lengths in the NZ Derby. Ran the fastest last 600m of 34.92sec.
CROSLEY HOTSHOT Well beaten in the Rosehill Guineas. Not likely.
OH SO SPLENDIDO Another Kiwi. Forget NZ Derby as he was flattened mid-race. Just battled in the Rosehill Guineas.
ALFDEN Canberra maiden out of his depth.
JAMEKA The lone girl. Attempting to be the fifth filly to win in the past 30 years. VRC Oaks winner whose last two runs against the boys suggest she's right up there with them. Trainer Ciaron Maher has a happy knack of getting his horses to peak on the day.
