WITH one decision, he broke hearts around the nation and Bachelor Sam Wood must now own the label of Australian TV's most hated men.
Wood incurred the wrath of Bachelor fans after deciding to send series favourite Heather Maltman home on Thursday night.
Yesterday a devastated Maltman put the knife in, telling Tiffany Dunk: "It's a relief to finally be honest and say, He actually broke my heart'." In the face of overwhelming public outcry, the man at the centre of the scandal has stuck to his guns stating he is confident he made the right decision: "I don't feel like I've done anything wrong," he said. "I followed my heart the whole way through and the decisions I've made were absolutely the right decisions. My decision (to send Maltman home) was one of those occasions where it was really a no-win for anyone, but it had to be done." The episode of The Bachelor proved to be the hottest trend on Twitter that night with Channel Ten revealing 76 per cent of all TV-related tweets were about the show.
Wood said he understood the Australian public had fallen in love with Maltman but in the end it was his heart on the line. "It was hard at the time, then reliving it last night was just horrible," he said.
"I understand that so many people have fallen in love with Heather because she's such an incredible girl, so it wasn't a terribly popular decision." Having not spoken to Maltman since saying goodbye, Wood said he is keen to see how she is faring, post-heartbreak - but only after first getting the okay from the woman he picked over her - either Sarah Mackay, Snezana Markoski or Lana Jeavons-Fellows.He added he is still with that lucky girl: "I am absolutely in love with her and I have absolutely no qualms in saying it. I can't wait for the show to be over and for the next stage of our life to begin."
