The article by Nicole Hasham about the poor pregnant mother in detention on Nauru brought tears to my eyes ("Birth on Nauru: Mother's despair at mice-ridden tent home for new baby", October 28).
It seems that she has a choice between a natural birth (with the knowledge that she was unable to have this for her previous two births) or to have a caesarean in a dirty and inadequate hospital. Either option could end up with either serious injury or death for mother, baby or both.
The Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, and the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, must face the fact that the outcome will be their responsibility.
It is time for our government to admit that the Nauru and Manus Island experiments were a mistake, and to bring them to this country where we have plenty to share.
Let's not continue on this destructive path.
We don't want this poor innocent family to forever be known for having to make "Fairuza's choice".
