Can you tell a girl where she's from by what she's wearing? Yes, I reckon.

Sydney
While Sydney is no doubt getting more stylish, most women are focused on one thing: showing off a great tan. The weekend uniform, when it's not activewear, is a pair of One Teaspoon denim cutoff shorts with a Bassike T-shirt and some kind of leather sandal. They're easy outfits that can be worn on beaches, in playgrounds with children, or for afternoon mohitos.
Beyond 10pm let your eyes a-wander, for that's when the peacocks come out. A rainbow of brightly hued frocks in a variety of prints is the look of the summer. Mid-thigh, worn with a spindly heel that will catch on many a roadside grate as the night continues, and finished with long hair that's been slightly twisted for modern waves.

Melbourne
They are still as chic as ever with poseurs migrating to the northern states. Melbournites live in black, which essentially means you can't go wrong. You could be wearing black MC Hammer pants from 1985 and people will look at you as though it's the latest thing. Oh hang on, Balmain just did that for H&M.
People are less obsessed with tanning and eyelash extensions in Melbourne and more likely to be sporting a "lob" (long bob) than cascading curls. They're also not afraid to wear flat shoes and know that leopard print indeed does have a time and a place.
While the black thing will never grow old, it can get a tad dull. Sometimes you do feel like shouting "liven up!" but Melbournites will just look down their Campari at you and shuffle, ever so effortlessly, along to the next bar.

Brisbane
Don't confuse this city with the Gold Coast. There is definitely a different aesthetic with stylish girls picking up on the vintage trend. Granted, this hit southern states a few years ago, but that just shows Brisbane girls dress to the beat of their own drum. And they have to, 'cause they have a whole other thing affecting their style: the weather. Have you ever tried to dress in Melbourne's all-black favourite when you're sweating in 30 degrees in August? No? Then you can't judge.
If you're out at a party in Brissie and want to blend in with the crowd, you can't go past a skin-tight lycra dress that stops above the knee and shows off your hard-earned body. Lots of women in Brisbane have a hard-earned body because they spend so much time in swimwear, it would be counter-productive not to.

Perth
Just like the precious gems mined out of the west, Perth girls are as original as they come. Besides being beautiful (a tonne of Australian models hails from Perth, there's something in the water over there), they have been born with an innate love for fashion. And now that online shopping has made most labels accessible, there's nothing these gals can't do.
Perth girls love embellishment, a bit of a sequin dazzle, some gold baubles or glitzy beads. And anything floaty. Think sheer chiffon blowing lazily in the Margaret River breeze.

Is there a winner? Hell no! Fashion's the only winner here.
