IMPROVE your game or a golden opportunity will fade to Black. That will be the message from Wallabies coach Michael Cheika to his troops ahead of a first World Cup final with the All Blacks, and the areas for improvement have been made abundantly clear: the scrum and discipline.
Just as they did against Scotland, Australia allowed Argentina to hang in with penalty goals and turned what could have been a comfortable win into a nerve-shredding battle. In two Tests, the Wallabies have scored nine tries but given up the equivalent of six through penalty goals.
Wing Adam Ashley-Cooper said it was not sustainable for the Wallabies to give away points.
"I don't know how many tries we were up but Argentina were always in the game and you have to look at that and address it," Ashley-Cooper said.
"You just can't afford to be ill-disciplined in your own 50 because teams are just too good. Those three points, the ability to tick over a scoreboard is so vital in a Test match and it plays a big role mentally on the opposition."A handful of penalties came from scrums. With Scott Sio out, James Slipper (pictured) had a tough time at loose head against Ramiro Herrera. Expect Wallabies staff to push to have Sio's busted elbow patched up for the final.
