TRAINER Peter Moody moved closer to Hall of Fame status with a record fifth Australian Racehorse of the Year title in six years when Dissident blitzed rivals in the coveted award.
The season's national title came with four Group 1s for the retired stallion. The four-year-old joined Black Caviar's hat-trick in 2011-13 and Typhoon Tracy in 2010 after polling 119 votes from the 56 media and handicapper judges - 61 more than three-year-old Brazen Beau.
Dissident also won the sprinter's title (races up to 1400m) with 105 votes to Brazen Beau's 88 and Chautauqua's 70.
Moody did not attend the gala function at the MCG last night, saying he did not want to embarrass racing officialdom while he fights a cobalt charge.
Brazen Beau collected the champion three-year-old title for Chris Waller, while Gai Waterhouse saluted with Golden Slipper winner Vancouver in the two-year-old award.
John O'Shea won the middle-distance title through Contributer, while West Australian trainer Grant Williams won the champion three-year-old filly title with Delicacy.Protectionist became the first German-trained horse to secure champion stayer, while Victorian trainer Ciaron Maher's Bashboy won his third champion jumper title.
